My main aim is to make quilts which are functional- which can be used to give warmth and comfort. However, the nature of patchwork and quilting techniques also opens a whole world of pattern and colour.
In my recent work I have challenged myself to make quilts from repurposed and recycled materials, mostly generated from my own home and family. I enjoy the challenge to make a beautiful fabric from limited materials.
I studied textiles at Manchester Polytechnic, and specialised in embroidered textiles. I went on to teach textile design and drawing in further education.
I am continually learning. Each quilt I have made has posed different challenges and has pushed forward my knowledge of techniques.
I am inspired by nature, the changing seasons and the landscape. I collect my observations in a bullet journal, make quick sketches and larger painted compositions. By experimenting with fabric and stitch, I hope to find ways to interpret these observations in a series of quilted textile pieces.
