Isobel Loftus

Although I have worked with and studied textiles over many years, my practice in quilt making is more recent. I am thoroughly enjoying discovering all I can about this wonderful arts and crafts practice.

I studied textiles at Manchester Polytechnic (as it was known back then!), and specialised in embroidered textiles. I went on to teach textile design and drawing in further education.

In my recent work I have challenged myself to make quilts from repurposed and recycled materials, mostly generated from my own home and family. I enjoy the challenge to make a beautiful fabric from limited materials. My main aim is to make quilts which are functional- which can be used to give warmth and comfort. However, the nature of patchwork and quilting techniques also opens a whole world of pattern and colour.

I am continually learning. Each quilt I have made has posed different challenges and has pushed forward my knowledge of techniques.
