The natural world and many different aspects of mankind’s inventiveness fuel my creativity. A stunning landscape seen on holiday, a tiny flower in the back garden, a fabulous piece of modern architecture, or a cog from a clock might just become the starting point, a feature, or the central theme for a new project.
Although having drawn and painted all my life, give me a brush and paint and I am more than likely to reach for fabric, rather than paper, as my base medium. Fabric, especially when combined with stitch, offers such exciting potential for textural exploration. Working with a mix of traditional, modern and experimental textile and art techniques, I will readily exploit whatever materials are to hand and freely adapt my approach as a piece of work evolves.
