In 2015 I completed a City and Guilds Certificate in Patchwork and Quilting with Barbara Weeks at Studio 39 in Baldock, Herts. My final assessed piece was 'The River Ran Red' - a plant dyed wall hanging exploring the victorian shawls woven in Norwich, my native city.
I live in Hitchin, Herts. I have been using home grown dye plants for over 14 years, specialising in the 'Medieval Grand Teint' of madder, woad and weld. I am particularly interested in obtaining bright, level, fast colours on fabric, thread, yarn and fibre. I offer workshops in plant dyeing, mordanting and plant dye garden design. I also enjoy talking to groups about plant dyeing and its fascinating history.
I maintain a blog about the horticulture and history of the dyes at https://www.naturesrainbow.co.uk
In addition to textile crafts, my interests include Science Fiction, History of Science and the political and personal challenges of living a "good life" at a time of climate breakdown.
